UPDATE – Turkish stocks up at Friday close

Turkey’s benchmark stock index ended the week at 1,441.33 points, up 0.95% from the previous close.

After starting Friday at 1,434.57 points, Borsa Istanbul’s BIST 100 index gained 13.6 points from Thursday’s close of 1,427.73 points.

During Friday’s trading, the BIST 100 hovered between 1,423.39 points and 1,444.79 points, with 55 stocks on the index rising, 41 down, and four flat from the previous close.

Ending the week with a market value of around 1 trillion Turkish liras ($121.4 billion), the benchmark index posted a daily trading volume of 26.8 billion liras ($3.26 billion).

The highest trading volumes were posted by petrochemical giant Petkim, private lender Garanti BBVA, and gold miner Koza Altin.

Stocks of automotive firm Karsan posted the largest rise with 7.4%, while shares of energy firm Aksa dropped the most, 7.4%.

One ounce of gold traded for $1,839.50 by market close, up from $1,775.50 at the previous close, according to data from Borsa Istanbul’s Precious Metals and Diamond Markets.

The price of Brent crude oil was around $68 per barrel as of 6.10 p.m. local time (1510GMT) on Friday.
