Younane delivers Christmas message: For fair electoral law and two new parliamentary seats for Syriacs

NNA – Patriarch of Catholic Syriacs, Ignace Youssef III Younane, addressed his Christmas message on Friday to the devout, recalling the values of nativity, but also congratulating the Lebanese for the election of a new president and the formation of a Government, after more than two years of vacancy.

The Patriarch denounced the marginalization of Syriacs in the Lebanese political life. “We implore the child of the crèche to help the government promulgate a fair electoral law that meets the aspirations of the Lebanese in General and the Syriac community in particular with a law that would add two new parliamentary seats for the Syriac community, whether Catholic or Orthodox,” he said.

Turning to the subject of war in Syria, he urged the international powers to put an end to the “bloodshed that has lasted six years,” hoping that a peaceful solution will be found soon.
