US stock market opens Wednesday mixed

Major indexes in the US stock market opened mixed on Wednesday.

The Dow Jones rose just 16 points, or 0.05%, to 33,609 at 10.06 a.m. EDT (1506GMT).

While the S&P 500 lost 18 points, or 0.47%, to 3,973, the Nasdaq plummeted 141 points, or 1.24%, to 11,216.

The VIX volatility index, also known as the fear index, fell 0.9% to 24.31. The 10-year US Treasury yield lost 1.8% to 3.729%.

The dollar index lost 0.04% to 106.36, still around its highest in 20 years, while the euro jumped 0.33% to $1.0382 against the greenback.

Precious metals were down, with gold falling 0.25% to $1,774 per ounce and silver losing 0.3% to $21.49.

Oil prices dropped around 2%. Global benchmark Brent crude traded at $92.36 per barrel for a loss of 1.6%. US benchmark West Texas Intermediate crude was around $85.00 – down 2.2%.
