Ukrainian president congratulates new UK prime minister

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy congratulated new British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, who took over on Tuesday as the country’s third leader in just two months.

“I wish you to successfully overcome all the challenges facing British society and the whole world today,” Zelenskyy said on Twitter.

“I’m ready to continue strengthening the Ukraine-UK strategic partnership together,” he added.

Zelenskyy’s top aide Andriy Yermak joined him in congratulating Sunak, 42, who is the UK’s first British Asian prime minister and the youngest in over two centuries.

“We are grateful for the (UK’s) clear position and full support of Ukraine,” said Yermak, head of the Ukrainian presidential office.

“Hopefully, friendly relations between our nations will get even closer and stronger.”
