NNA – Vice Premier Minister of National Defense Samir Mokbel welcomed Tuesday before noon at his Ministry office his Spanish Counterpart Morines Pedro, with discussions featured high on strengthening cooperation between the two countries to confront terrorism.
Heading a military delegation of senior officials at the Defense Ministry and accompanied by the Spanish Ambassadress to Lebanon Milagros Hernando and the Military Attaché at the embassy, Pedro stressed his country’s commitment to Lebanon, saying that they consider Lebanon not only a friend country but also an ally.
In the wake of the meeting, Mokbel described it as positive, noting that talks featured high on the current situation in the region and the terrorists’ perils that threaten Lebanon at its borders.
“Discussions also tackled the issue of the Displaced Syrians to Lebanon and its negative repercussions on the Lebanese community as well as the aids that Spain can present to contribute in treating this issue,” Mokbel said, pointing out that communication and coordination between the two countries would continuein order to strengthen cooperation and achieve the desired goal.
In turn, the Spanish Defense Minister expressed his pleasure for returning to Lebanon and visiting the Spanish forces that celebrate this year its tenth anniversary in Lebanon.
Pedro said that the Spanish are well aware of the efforts that Lebanon is exerting to ensure “the security of this country which directly affects our security in Europe and Spain.”
Pedro pointed out that the common effort between the two countries stems out from their confidence in the struggle for freedom , peace and justice , adding “we will commit to this mission which we are carrying out in Lebanon not only within the context of UNIFIL but also via the bilateral relations with the Lebanese government.”
Pedro also said that talks tackled Lebanon’s needs as for the donations for the armed forces as of training and equipping the Army with weapons and gear.
Then after, Pedro left to the south to check the Spanish contingent and celebrate with them the 10th anniversary of their presence in Lebanon within the UNIFIL.
