A second-half equalizer by Andros Townsend earned Everton a 1-1 draw against Manchester United at Old Trafford on Saturday.
French forward Anthony Martial put the home side ahead just before the break, curling a shot past Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford for his first Premier League goal since February.
The lead was canceled in the 65th minute as Townsend slotted a low shot into the corner to finish off a blistering Everton counterattack.
Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo came on in the second half for his 200th Premier League appearance but could not make an impact.
The result leaves both United and Everton with 14 points from seven games.
Liverpool will look to capitalize on United’s slipup and retain top spot, but Jurgen Klopp’s men face the stiffest of challenges as they host defending champions Manchester City at Anfield on Sunday.
