KHAN SHAYKHUN, Syria

A father and husband on Thursday mourned the loss of much of his family in the apparent deadly chemical weapons attack blamed on President Bashar al-Assad.

Abdulhamid al-Yusuf cried while hugging the tombstones of his 9-month-old twins, Aya and Ahmed, his wife and 13 relatives who were killed in the attack Tuesday in which Turkish officials said sarin gas was used.

"My children were so beautiful, but they were not the first children who were killed in Syria, Al-Yusuf told Anadolu Agency at his home after he was treated at a hospital.

Through tears, he said although he is finding it difficult to deal with his current reality, he has found a sense of peace because he believes in Allah's mercy. "We have sent Ahmed and Aya to an Allah which has lots of mercy. For this reason, I am not worry about them, he said.

"We are here [in Syria] despite all [bad] things. We will be patient to the end. One day, we will definitely win the victory," he added as he pleaded with Gulf nations to take action for against the Assad regime.

"We will show all the world how patient we were. We are not the first or the last. It [Syrian war] will continue. Our children have been killed in our arms for six years. Nothing has been done."

The chemical attack in the northwestern town of Khan Shaykhun reportedly killed more than 100 civilians and injured 500 others and drew international outrage.
