Syria: Russian air raids on Idlib, truce violated – NGO

(ANSAmed) BEIRUT- The Russian air force on Wednesday morning carried out more air raids against the northwestern region of Idlib out of government control, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human rights.

The UK-based monitoring group said Russian jets flew over the area of Maarrat an Numan, repeatedly bombing it over the last few hours. The area has been at the center of an air and ground offensive carried out by Damascus and Moscow since December 1.

The Russian raids violated a truce announced Sunday by Turkey, which has influence over the region of Idlib and negotiates directly with Moscow. Since Monday, Russia and the Syrian government have announced the opening of a corridor to let civilians leave the areas around Maarrat an Numan.
