Soccer: Zaniolo vows to come back stronger after injury (3)

(Refiles, inserting player's name in 1st paragraph) (ANSA) - Rome- AS Roma and Italy midfielder NicolA Zaniolo used Twitter to pledge that he would "come back stronger than before" after suffering a cruciate-ligament injury in his right knee in Sunday's 2-1 defeat to Juventus.

The 20-year-old, widely considered Italian soccer's most promising talent, looks likely to miss the rest of the Serie A season and probably Euro 2020 too.

The player arrived at the Villa Stuart clinic in Rome on crutches on Monday to have surgery.

The op was later said to have been a success.

Zaniolo said on Twitter "thanks to everyone for the affection you have transmitted to me in these hours. I can't wait to get back. Forza Roma".

He was shown with his thumbs up and a Roma scarf behind him.

Zaniolo has said he will do his utmost to try and be back in time for Italy's Euro 2020 opener against Turkey at the Olimpico.
