NNA – Maronite Patriarch Mar Bechara Boutros Rahi said “we want a president who is made in Lebanon.”
“Parliamentary blocs ought to shoulder their responsibility and read beyond regional and local developments to be able to elect a president accepted both regionally and internationally.”
Rahi made these remarks at Beirut airport ahead of his Vatican trip.
“We will raise the issue of the presidency with the Pontiff and with Vatican officials,” he said, ruling out possible meetings with former PM Saad Hariri or MP Sleiman Frangieh at the Vatican.
“We have encouraged parliamentary blocs to negotiate and come up with presidential initiatives, and that was crowned by Geagea’s support to Aoun’s candidature, a step that satisfied the Lebanese,” Rahi said.
