Musician Ferhat Tunç has been released after his deposition.
Tunç was taken into custody at the İstanbul Atatürk Airport yesterday (January 13) and was first taken to the Atatürk Airport Branch of İstanbul Security Directorate, then referred to the Bakırköy Courthouse.
Tunç has been released after deposing to the Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor's Office via the Audio and Visual Information System (SEGBİS) as part of an investigation launched against him in the province.
Speaking to bianet about the investigation, attorney Fatma Hopikoğlu has stated that there are two separate investigations launched against the musician and added that they have not been informed about the details:
"There are two separate investigations against Tunç at Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. One of them is about his remarks during a statement for the press regarding the devastation of Sur (in Diyarbakır).
"Though the nature of this statement was about the protection of historical artifacts, an investigation was launched against him for 'propagandizing for a terrorist organization.' This investigation consists solely of this statement.
"Regarding the second investigation, Tunç was asked whether he had participated in the meetings of the Democratic Society Congress (DTK).
"Tunç answered that he is a member of the Peoples' Democratic Congress (HDK) and does not remember whether he participated in the meetings."
No probation measures have been imposed on Tunç. (AS/SD)
