Arguing that “birth control was an updated method”, Minister of Health Recep Akdağ noted that the Ministry of Health performed works rather on the field of “modern reproduction health”.

Upon Erdoğan’s statement that “a woman who did not give birth to a child, were only half”, Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Adana Deputy Meral Danış Beştaş had asked the Minister of Health, whether the President had any instructions regarding methods of birth control.

Minister Akdağ responded to the question as “”Our Ministry has no such outdated methods like birth control. Our Ministry performed works rather on the field of “modern reproduction health”

Noting that he found the statement of the President which said “A woman abstaining from motherhood for ‘working’ actually refuses her womanhood. A woman refusing motherhood, refusing to manage household faces the threat of losing her freedom no matter how successful she is in the business world. She is half, she is lacking” to be very valuable, Akdağ said;

“It is obvious that the President wanted to underline the social value of women through the ‘gold-silver analogy'”. (ÇT/DG)
