İstanbul mayor-elect Ekrem İmamoğlu, who participated in the March 31 local elections as the candidate of the informal Nation Alliance led by the main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP), has been invited to the Provincial Election Council at the İstanbul Courthouse to be given the certificate of election.
The last part of the recount of the votes upon the appeals was completed in Maltepe district last night (April 16).
CHP İstanbul Chair Canan Kaftancıoğlu tweeted today at around 3.30 p.m., saying, "We are getting our mandate." MPs Barış Yarkadaş and Özgür Özel also said İmamoğlu was invited to the İstanbul Courthouse in Çağlayan to be given the certificate of the election.
CHP MP Ayhan Barut shared the picture of the certificate of election on Twitter.
Hundreds of people welcomed İmamoğlu at the courthouse.
CHP Group Deputy Chair Engin altay announced at around 5 p.m. that İmamoğlu got his mandate.
At around 6 p.m., a handover ceremony will be held and İmamoğlu will assume office.
