Collecting information on all polling clerks who were on duty in local elections in Kartal, Maltepe and Atasehir in Istanbul, the Prosecutor's Office will investigate whether any irregularities were committed while counting, documenting and entering the votes.

An investigation has been launched against all polling clerks who were on duty in March 31 local elections in KadikAly, Maltepe and Atasehir.

The Istanbul Anatolian Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has combined all ongoing investigations regarding Istanbul elections into three main investigations, namely the "KadikAly investigation", "Maltepe investigation" and "Atasehir investigation."

The Chief Public Prosecutor's Office previously requested the identifying information of all polling clerks who were on duty in these three districts. The information and documents requested from the election councils of three districts have been sent to the Prosecutor's Office in 26 folders.

The Istanbul Anatolian Chief Public Prosecutor's Office will investigate whether any irregularities were committed in counting the votes, preparing joint minutes and entering them into the system.

In the meanwhile, all objections of the Republican People's Party (CHP) and IYI Party were rejected by the Supreme Election Council (YSK).

Though another investigation was previously launched against the polling clerks in Kartal and KadikAly, it did not result in prosecution.

CHP won the elections in all three districts

Election results in Kartal

In Kartal, GAlkhan Yuksel, the candidate of the CHP, has received 51.17 percent of votes while the candidate of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP), Ebubekir Tasyurek, has received 46.22 percent.

GAlkhan Yuksel, the youngest mayor of Istanbul, received his certificate of election and took office in Kartal.

Election results in Atasehir

While Battal Ilgezdi from the CHP has been elected the Mayor of Atasehir by receiving 51.39 percent of the votes, the AKP's candidate, Ismail Erdem, has come second by receiving 45.11 percent of votes.

Election results in Maltepe

In Maltepe, CHP's candidate Ali Kilic has received 52.74 percent of votes and been elected the mayor of the district. AKP's candidate was not among the top five candidates there.

Istanbul election rerun on June 23

In its verdict dated May 6, the YSK has ruled that Metropolitan Mayoral Elections in Istanbul shall be repeated.

The certificate of election of CHP's Ekrem Imamoglu, who won the election according to unofficial results, has been revoked. Until the repeat elections on June 23, Governor of Istanbul Ali Yerlikaya will be the Deputy Mayor.

YSK Chair Sadi Guven has also announced that the same voters will cast votes in repeat elections.
