Istanbul Office of the Contemporary Lawyers' Association (CHD) has announced that 119 people who attempted to celebrate the May Day in Taksim were detained, 16 of them have been released. The DHA News Agency has announced the number as 127.
The Contemporary Lawyers' Association (CHD) Istanbul Office has announced that 119 people in total were taken into custody in Taksim, Sisli and Besiktas in Istanbul today (May 1).
Making a statement on 4.20 p.m., the association has stated that while 103 of the detained have still been in custody, 13 of them have been released from the Sisli Police Department.
In its statement, the CHD has underlined that "all citizens who used their constitutional rights should be released immediately."
DHA Agency: 127 people detained
According to the state-run Anadolu Agency (AA), as of 1.49 p.m. today, 84 people in total were taken into custody.
While 28 of them were detained in Sisli, 29 of them in Besiktas, 22 of them in Beyoglu, 4 of them in Kagithane and one in BakirkAly.
At around 4.30 p.m., the DemirAlren News Agency (DHA) announced that 127 people in total have been taken into custody. As reported by the DHA, 55 people were detained in Besiktas, 38 of them in Sisli, 29 of them in Beyoglu, 4 of them in Kagithane and 1 person in BakirkAly. (AS/SD)
