The video of an armed attack on Azerbaijan’s Embassy in Tehran circulated on social media on Friday.

The video shows an assailant forcing his way into the embassy, and then opening fire at the picket of embassy guards.

The incident sparked panic among the staff. Amid the chaotic situation, embassy personnel rushed at the assailant in an attempt to disarm him.

The attacker was immediately arrested by security forces.

The incident took place on Friday at around 8.30 a.m. local time (0500GMT).

The head of the embassy's security services was killed in the attack while two guards were injured.

The 50-year-old attacker was accompanied by two children -- a 14-year-old girl and a 7-year-old boy.

The attacker claimed his wife went to the embassy in April last year and did not return, according to preliminary probes.

Despite repeated visits to the embassy to seek her whereabouts, he did not receive any response.
