Uzbekistan sending 50 tons of humanitarian aid for Syria quake victims

Uzbekistan’s government on Tuesday announced it will send some 50 tons of humanitarian aid for earthquake victims in Syria.

The relief supplies include clothes, household appliances, canned food, baby food, dried fruit, blankets and pillows, hygiene products, and other essentials, the Uzbek Emergency Situations Ministry said in a statement.

Part of northwestern Syria were hit hard in the Feb. 6 twin tremors that were centered in Türkiye’s Kahramanmaras province, with the death toll now at around 5,840.

In Türkiye, the disaster has claimed more than 42,300 lives and affected some 13 million people in 11 southern provinces – Adana, Adiyaman, Diyarbakir, Gaziantep, Hatay, Kahramanmaras, Kilis, Malatya, Osmaniye, Sanliurfa, and Elazig.

Uzbekistan is dispatching the relief supplies to Syria on the directives of President Shavkat Mirziyoev, and they will be delivered via plane, the ministry said.

Uzbekistan has also delivered some 200 tons of relief goods for quake victims in Türkiye, the ministry added.
