4 Mediterranean news agencies sign declaration to protect forests, combat wildfires

Three Mediterranean region news agencies joined Anadolu Agency, Turkiye’s global news wire, on Thursday to jointly combat wildfires.

The four news agencies signed the Joint Declaration on the Mediterranean Wildfires to cooperate in protecting the forests of the Mediterranean, as well as raising public awareness.

Chairman of the Board and Director General of Anadolu Agency Serdar Karagoz led the ceremony in Istanbul with counterparts from Greece’s Athens-Macedonian News Agency (AMNA), Italy’s Agenzia Nazionale Stampa Associata (ANSA), and Spain’s Agencia EFE.

The meeting aims to establish a common ground to cooperate among the above-mentioned news agencies on covering the wildfire news and to raise awareness on Mediterranean countries.

Anadolu Agency also signed a cooperation deal with news agencies of Bulgaria (BTA), Belgium (BELGA), Croatia (HINA), Kosovo (Kosovapress) and Zimbabwe (New Ziana).

The deal will enable the agencies to exchange some visual content, news, photos and videos in specific languages.

The parties will transfer their experience and technical assistance to each other through contacts and will cooperate closely in following the news and providing information about the mutual visit of the leaders and official delegations of their countries.

Anadolu Agency has presence in more than 100 countries, and provides news and digital content to thousands of its subscribers in 13 languages.

The signing ceremony was held on the sidelines of Türkiye's first Environment Forum organized by Anadolu Agency.

The panelists, which included journalists, academics as well as representatives of international organizations, addressed the responsibility of media in the climate crisis, sustainable development, media's approach to natural disasters, as well as responsibility sharing on climate and environment.
