Actor Barış Atay has been detained by the gendarmerie in Dalyan district in Muğla on the ground of a detention warrant issued for him.

Participating in the Gezi Resistance, Atay had objected to the (Topçu Kışlası) Artillery Barracks planned to be built in Gezi Park.

Atay had gone to Reyhanlı following the explosion killing 52 people and met with the families in the district to express his condolences.

On November 2013, he was detained in İstanbul for being allegedly linked with Redhack, a hacker group. He was released following three days of detention. (HK/TK)

Republican People’s Party (CHP) Chair Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu will start a march from Ankara to İstanbul in reaction to arrest of CHP MP Enes Berberoğlu.

Kılıçdaroğlu announced the march on CNN Türk last night (June 14). The march, which will start from Güvenpark in Ankara at 11 a.m., will advance towards Maltepe Prison in İstanbul in which Berberoğlu is imprisoned.

Kılıçdaroğlu declared that he would march with a banner reading “Justice”.

Berberoğlu was sentenced to 25 years in prison in the suit brought into “MİT Trucks Report” published on Cumhuriyet Newspaper.

Barriers around the park

State-run Anadolu Agency reported that the park has been encircled with barriers. Security check points have been set for body search.

Riot squad forces have been deployed to the marching route and around Günvepark and Kızılay. (BK/TK)

Court has released Editor-in-Chief of cumhuriyet.com.tr Oğuz Güven who was arrested on May 15.

An investigation was launched into Güven on charge of “propagandizing for a terror organization” and “insulting the memory of a deceased person” with regards to a news report he had made about the death of Denizli Public Chief Prosecutor Mustafa Alper in a traffic accident.

He was taken into custody in his house on May 12 and the Chief Prosecutor’s Office ordered a 7-day detention for Güven.

After being referred to court, he testified to Prosecutor Celal Sarıdere and was arrested by 2nd Criminal Court of Peace.

The indictment demanding a punishment for Güven on charges of “propagandizing for a terrorist organization” and “publishing and distributing publications of terrorist organizations”.

Cumhuriyet Daily Ediyor-in-Chief Murat Sabuncu, columnist Hakan Kara, columnist Hikmet Çetinkaya, writer Hakan Kara, cartoonist Musa Kart, Cumhuriyet Foundation Executive Board member attorney Bülent Utku, columnist Güray Öz, Cumhuriyet Foundation Executive Board member and attorney Mustafa Kemal Güngör, Cumhuriyet Foundation Executive Board member Önder Çelik, Cumhuriyet Foundation Executive Board member Bülent Yener, Cumhuriyet Book Supplement Editor-in-Chief Turhan Günay, columnist Aydın Engin, columnist Kadri Gürsel and the daily’s Accounting Manager Günseli Özaltay were taken into custody on October 31, 2016.

Aydın Engin and Hikmet Çetinkaya were released on November 4, 2016.rosecutor’s office.

Murat Sabuncu, Hakan Kara, Musa Kart, Bülent Utku, Güray Öz, Mustafa Kemal Güngör, Önder Çelik, Turhan Günay and Kadri Gürsel were arrested on November 15, 2016.

Also an arrest warrant has been issued for journalist and President of the Execution Board Akın Atalay who were abroad at the time.
After returning to Turkey on November 11 Atalay was taken inco custody at the airport and was arrested on November 13.

Correspondent of Cumhuriyet daily, journalist Ahmet Şık was taken into custody on December 29, 2016 due to his certain postings on the social media and certain reports. He was sent to court for arrest on the same day.

İstanbul 8th Criminal Judgeship of Peace ordered Şık’s arrest on ground of “propagandizing for Fethullahist Terrorist Organization/Parallel State Organization (FETÖ/PDY) and Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK)”.

Cumhuriyet daily’s executives and writers are being charged with “committing crimes -on behalf of PKK/KCK and FETÖ/PDY as non-members”.
